There are several water filtration systems available for home use. There are point of entry systems like whole house water filter, and point of use systems like counter top filters. Filters such as Britta, and Pur do a reasonable (light) job of filtering water.  They are rather expensive to use once you get past the initial expense. The draw to these filters are the low cost initial expense, but the real expense is in replacing these filters every 30 gallons or so.
